Questions

Begin with a 5 minute warm up, questions like “tell me about yourself”, “tell me about your school” and “tell me about your family.” After that, move on to the main questions.

What do you think your life will be like 10 years from now? Where will you be living? What will you be doing?
Imagine that you have a weekly allowance of 1 million VND. How would you spend it?
Name two things that you wish your family can do together every weekend.
What is the grossest thing you can think of? Describe it for us.

Scores

1. Engages with the Question (10 points)*

The student actually answers the question, as asked. “I don’t know” is not an acceptable answer.

2. Precision and Specificity (20 points)*

The student uses specific examples and a varied vocabulary to communicate their answers.

3. Conversational Fluency (30 points)*

The student can speak without long pauses, hesitation, um/ah, etc. The student engages in conversation with the interviewer, isn’t a robot, asks at least one question of the interviewer.

4. Creativity (20 points)*

The student has original, creative answers.

5. Memorable Storytelling (20 points)*

The answers, taken all together, leave you with a memorable sense of who this kid is. If you feel at the end of the interview that you will remember young Thảo, then full points. If Thảo gave you a series of disconnected answers and left you with no distinct impression of her, no points.
